The
Sussex School of Practical Philosophy was started
in 1978 to make the courses of the School of Economic
Science available in Sussex. The main courses
are Practical Philosophy and Economics
with Justice.
Practical Philosophy
How do you know who you are? Or why you are? For
millennia, philosophy has explored these issues
to provide real answers that work today.
Our course of ten sessions over ten weeks in timeless
Practical Philosophy,
provides an opportunity to consider philosophical
ideas and questions of real relevance to all our
lives. The emphasis is on learning from the most
powerful of teachers: our own experience.
Economics
with Justice
Does economics have anything to do with our daily
life? Can economics produce a just and equitable
outcome for all? Why does the economic world fail
so catastrophically and so frequently? Can economics
be directed towards stability and prosperity for
all?
These
questions may only be a few hundred years old
but desperately need addressing today. Economics
with Justice is a fresh and innovative approach
to economics. Designed for the general public,
it explores how economics can be directed towards
stability and prosperity for all people, and why
it doesn't always do so.
Qualifications
For
both of these School of Economic Science courses,
the only requirement is an interest in the subject
and an open mind. Open to everyone, they do not
offer certificates or other qualifications, but
something arguably much more important –
a new, fresh appreciation of the world about us,
and the parts we play in it.
The
courses are available in other parts of the UK,
details of which are available through the links
for Practical
Philosophy (UK) and Economics
with Justice (UK). The main website for the
School
of Economic Science provides information on
other courses, research and activities.
